Ewa Pobłocka


Ewa Pobłocka was born in Chełmno. She comes from a musical family, her mother,  Zofia Janukowicz-Pobłocka, was a pianist. Ewa Pobłocka studied at the State Higher School of Music in Gdańsk under Zbigniew Śliwiński and Jerzy Sulikowski and in 1981 received a diploma with distinction. She continued her postgraduate studies in Hamburg under Conrad Hansen. She also held artistic consultations with Jadwiga Sukiennicka, Rudolf Kerer, Tatiana Nikołajewa and Martha Argerich. She is the prizewinner of the international piano competitions in Vercelli (1977), Bordeaux (1979) and Warsaw (1980).

She has given performances throughout Europe as well as in North and South America, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Republic of South Africa, Singapore, Korea, Japan and Australia. She has appeared as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Bayerischer Rundfunkorchester, Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, the National Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra  and the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

She has a penchant for playing chamber music. The artist has appeared on stage with the Silesian String Quartet (Kwartet Śląski), the Berlin Philharmonic’s quartet, Dang Thai Sonem – pianist (pieces for four hands and two pianos) as well as with singers – Jadwiga Rappé, Olga Pasiecznik and Ewa Podleś.  She has created the Multitrio with her daughters, Ewa Leszczyńska (soprano) and Maria Leszczyńska (cello). She has first performed and made premiere recordings of many pieces by Polish contemporary composers, among others Andrzej Panufnik, Witold Lutosławski, Paweł Szymański and Paweł Mykietyn (Paweł Szymański and Paweł Mykietyn have dedicated their concerts to her). She has been collaborating with numerous European broadcasting stations. She has recorded almost 50 CDs to date, which encompass solo and chamber repertoire spanning from Baroque till the present. These recordings have been made for Polskie Nagrania Muza, Deutsche Grammophon, Pony Canyon, Victor JVC, Conifer Records, CD Accord and BeArTon.

Ms. Pobłocka is also a distinguished music educator. She teaches a piano class at the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She holds master classes in Canada, Vietnam, Japan, Mongolia, China, Ireland, Norway and Korea.  She is also a guest professor at the Geidai University of the Arts and Music- universities in Tokyo and Nagoya. She often serves on the jury of many international piano competitions.

In 2004 the artist received the annual Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award, the same year she was honored by the President of Poland with the Cavalier’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
