Graduated from the Peter Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in the piano class of Prof. Samuel Feinberg and that of organ with Prof. Alexandr Gedike. In 1945 he was given first prize at the All-Soviet Competition of Music Performers. Prize-winner at the 4th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1949. His repertoire includes among others classical pieces and those of contemporary Russian composers. Apart from giving recitals and appearing with renown orchestras he is also keen on chamber music playing. Has been giving concerts all over the world. Has made 22 records for Melodia, Monitor, Angel, Shinse-kay, Ricordi. From 1985 head of the piano department at the Peter Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He was holding courses at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. Juror at many international music competitions. Chairman of the Jury at the International S. Rachmaninov Piano Competition in Moscow. Organizer of the annual S. Rachmaninov Festival in Tambov.
