Recognized as a prodigy from age 3, Hiroko Nakamura has performed in more than 3700 concerts worldwide, has made about 50 recordings, and is the award-winning author of five books. She has made innumerable appearances with major orchestras under the direction of such renowned conductors as James Levine, Kiril Kondrasin, Rafael Fruebech, Evgeny Svetlanov, Vladimir Fedoseyev and Jean Fournet.

In recent years, she has devoted her time to nurturing and introducing young pianists widely in Japan and abroad. She was the Chairperson of Hamamatsu International Piano Competition for 15 years from 1994, and has served on the juries of many international competitions such as Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Long-Thibaut, Van Cliburn, Leeds, Dublin, Busoni, Sydney, Paloma O’shea, Beijing, and Shanghai. She has been recognized with many international awards including a decoration from the government of Japan and Poland and has recently received the Gold Medal for Merits to Culture Gloria Artis.

She continues to enjoy a distinguished career of performing, recording, coaching and judging. In 2009/2010 season she celebrated 50th anniversary of her debut, and toured all 47 prefectures around Japan in the season having more than 100 recitals and concerts with major orchestras. In February 2012 Ms. Nakamura played with The Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra for their Japan tour with Antoni Wit and Michal Dworzynski, and got great acclaim.
